4 Reasons I Use FOREVER Storage

tools & technology May 25, 2022

One of my 2022 genealogy goals is to start getting my digital photos into FOREVER Storage. The plan was to spend 30-60 minutes each week working on this goal. Initially, I had to figure out my workflow, which took a little bit of time to work through. But I finally have it figured out and have been spending time each week bringing photos into FOREVER Historian for tagging, editing, and organizing, and then I send them to FOREVER Storage.

What is FOREVER Storage?

FOREVER Storage is a cloud-based storage solution for image files, video files, audio files, and even PDFs, that is designed to be around forever. You pay a one-time fee for a set amount of storage space, and it’s yours forever (yes, even after you’re gone). Although I also use their Historian software, which is a photo-management program, it is not required for use with Storage. I can actually upload my photos directly into Storage and tag and organize them there. I’ve chosen to use Historian because I can do quick edits to the photos, without changing the original stored on my computer, and I can save some time by allowing face recognition to help me tag the people in the photos.

Why I Use FOREVER Storage

There are a lot of reasons FOREVER Storage appeals to me, but here are my top four reasons:

  1. I can preserve my photos and genealogy documents safely and securely…forever…even after I’m gone!
  2. I can access Storage from anywhere on any device (with an internet connection, of course), which means I always have my items with me (you know, for those moments at the holiday dinner table when people start reminiscing, I can pop up and say “I have photos of that!”).
  3. I can share photos publicly or with select family and friends. (Wanna see 2-year-old me? Click here!)
  4. Storage serves as an additional backup that is offsite and accessible immediately, should I lose the originals stored on my laptop and external hard drive.
